AUSSIE FOODIES LOSE IT OVER 'IMPOSSIBLY CHEAP' ITALIAN RESTAURANT

Aussie foodies are delighted after discovering a hidden-gem Italian restaurant with '2000s prices' - including $12 large pizzas, $7 pastas, and $3.50 coffees.

Cafe Perri is in Carnegie, 12km south-east of Melbourne's central business district.

Diners were left slack-jawed at the 'unbelievable' prices and variety on the menu, which offers everything from breakfast foods to lasagna and dessert.

'Shops are rising prices but my local Italian is still staying strong,' a man shared on Reddit alongside a photo of the menu.

'$7 pizza? $5 pasta? $3.50 coffee? [This is] actually wild.'

Many who saw the photo expressed their shock at such affordable prices in the current climate.

'$5 calzone?! That's ridiculous! My local is $22 on Sydney road, and they aren't even Italian!' one shared.

'$3 coffees in 2024. These guys are going god's work,' another wrote.

'Meanwhile my local pizza place in Sydney charges $26 for a 'large 13 inch' pizza,' an annoyed customer said.

'I'm tempted to travel down from Queensland to eat there,' a man wrote.

'I'm not in Carnegie, but if I was, I'd be heading over there. Those prices are incredible in this day and age,' another said.

Cafe Perri opened its doors to customers in late 2022.

'That means they opened and charged these cheap prices from the start, it's not like they're a 30-year-old establishment that refused to put up their prices,' one marvelled.

Another theorised that a reason few places are able to keep their prices low is because of real estate.

'They probably own the building, so they can do this. Commercial real estate rent is so high, it's impossible to offer prices like this without taking a loss.

'Sure, it would be nice if we saw more businesses own the building they operate in, and the low prices to reflect it, but that doesn't mean other businesses are price-gouging,' a man said.
